Academic Pathway

The PWPGC Academic Pathway offers student-athletes a variety of options to tailor their education and prepare for their future, ensuring that each individual can pursue the route that best aligns with their personal and professional goals. Whether athletes are aiming for a traditional college degree, looking to build a strong academic foundation, or interested in directly entering the workforce with specialized skills, the PWPGC provides a comprehensive academic model that supports a variety of career paths.

1. High School Courses:

Overview:

This pathway is designed for student-athletes who may need to enhance their high school academic profile. It’s especially helpful for those looking to improve their GPA, complete missing credits, or prepare for higher-level education.

   – Who It’s For:

–       Students who are graduating from high school but may need additional academic work before enrolling in college.

–       Athletes who want to strengthen their high school transcripts to meet NCAA or NAIA eligibility requirements.

   – Course Options:

–       Students can select from 1 to 3 high school-level courses, focusing on core subjects such as English, Math, Science, or Social Studies.

–       These courses help improve academic standing, making athletes more competitive when applying for scholarships or admission to college programs.

   – Benefits:

–       Improved Academic Profile: Completing high school courses can enhance a student’s transcript, helping them stand out to college admissions and athletic recruitment teams.

–       Eligibility Support: High school courses can also help athletes meet eligibility standards for NCAA or NAIA athletic programs.

–       Smooth Transition to College: For athletes who feel academically unprepared for college coursework, this pathway provides an opportunity to bridge the gap.

2. College-Level Courses:

Overview:

This pathway allows student-athletes to earn college credits while still in the PWPGC program. By enrolling in local community college courses, athletes can begin their higher education journey and potentially transfer those credits toward a college degree in the future.

   – Who It’s For:

–       Students looking to gain a head start on their college education by completing college-level coursework.

–       Athletes aiming to improve their academic credentials for NCAA or NAIA eligibility and scholarship opportunities.

–       Students who plan to continue their education at a four-year university and want to reduce the time and cost of earning a degree.

   – Course Options:

–       Students can take up to 9 college credits per semester at a local community college, with a selection of general education courses in areas such as English, Math, History, Science, and Social Sciences.

–       These credits can transfer to most universities, giving students a head start in their college journey.

   – Benefits:

–       Head Start on College: Earning college credits before officially enrolling in a four-year program allows students to lighten their future academic load.

–       NCAA/NAIA Eligibility: Completing college-level coursework can help meet eligibility requirements for collegiate athletics, positioning students for recruitment opportunities.

–       Financial Savings: By earning college credits early, students can potentially save on tuition costs and accelerate their academic progress once they transition to a full-time college program.

–       Academic Rigor: College courses challenge students to develop more advanced study and time-management skills, better preparing them for the demands of college life.

3. Vocational Pathway

Overview:

The Vocational Pathway is designed for athletes who have a clear career interest and wish to gain practical, hands-on skills for immediate entry into the workforce. This pathway offers students the opportunity to earn industry-specific certifications and training, which can set them on a fast track to employment in various sectors.

   – Who It’s For:

–       Students who are not necessarily looking to pursue a traditional college degree but instead want to enter the workforce with specialized skills.
